The curtain closed on Nanuet Theater’s production of Seussical the Musical this past weekend, as the auditorium erupted in applause and standing ovations. Audiences were delighted with the fun storyline, smart humor, and – at times – emotional moments of the show, all told through a complex web of notes and rhythms. The impressive musical talent on stage was masterfully brought to life by one of the newer faces in Nanuet Theater: Ms. Melanie Sadoff.
Sadoff has been teaching orchestra at Nanuet since 2020, and has grown to be greatly admired by her students. Stepping into her new role in Seussical, Ms. Sadoff showed an even greater range of skills and expertise. Her unwavering dedication to the program turned heads, and led to a hit show that received a uniquely positive response from the audience.
However, Sadoff did not work alone. The dedicated team of teachers who contribute to theater put in their all for Seussical, especially co-director Ms. Cokeley, who has led many previous shows to incredible success. In addition, the music teachers who formed part of the pit orchestra were warm and receptive of Sadoff’s new role as their director.
All those lucky enough to experience Sadoff as a conductor know that she brings a clear vision and specific goals to every rehearsal. Sadoff’s energy and musicality is evident in all aspects of her leadership, whether it’s through her fine-tuned critiques during rehearsal, or her command of the baton on the big day. It’s clear that her precise editing and musical vision led to the success of both the cast and pit.
Nanuet’s previous musical directors were well loved (and for good reason), and Sadoff has cemented herself as another great talent. Working in harmony alongside seasoned director Ms. Cokeley, the new duo have ushered in a new era for Nanuet Theater, which has already proven to be incredibly successful and welcomed by all.
The closing of the curtain on Seussical was the bittersweet end of an era, and the time spent preparing the production created unforgettable memories for all those involved. But, to quote Dr. Seuss himself, “Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.”
