This year at Nanuet Senior High School, the Theater Department is presenting Shrek: The Musical! Shrek is a family movie night classic about a talking donkey, a green-faced ogre, and a princess living a double life. After months of cast rehearsals, tireless work from the building and painting crew, and long, late hours dedicated to tech week, members of the cast and crew are filled with excitement and anticipation to perform in front of an audience this weekend. The performances are Friday, March 14 and Saturday, March 15, both at 7 p.m., in the High School Auditorium, and members of the Nanuet Community will not want to miss it.
Autumn Calvello, a senior, has been a part of Nanuet Theater for many years and is in nearly every scene of the musical. When asked what her initial reaction to finding out what the musical was, Calvello shared that she had hoped for a different show at first, but quickly changed her tune once the musical was underway.
“I initially was a little upset, as I thought it was Grease,” she said, adding that she’s “warmed up to it” and that her experience singing and acting with the rest of the cast has been enjoyable.
The experience rehearsing for the musical has been an overly positive one, according to Calvello.
“It’s been fun,” she said. “I’m in scenes with four other friends of mine. I’ve gotten to go through the show with those specific four people. The dances are also something that I really enjoy!”
As tech week and the teasers approached, many students and teachers expressed their excitement, as well. Teachers, including Ms. Silver and Ms. Grymes have stated their excitement to see the show this upcoming weekend.
After the full run-through of the show on tech Saturday, stating that the musical is fun to watch and full of talented individuals would be an understatement. Many have said that watching the development of the show throughout the several weeks of rehearsal and crew has been an extremely fun and exciting process.
Overall, the cast and crew believe that the show will captivate and entertain the audience, both children and adults, to the fullest extent. Fun numbers for the kids and sneaky innuendos for the adults, make this musical a family hit.
Make sure to go see Shrek: The Musical on Friday and Saturday, and be prepared to be entertained.
