The pep rally has made a comeback at Nanuet! The classic high school tradition has been reinstated this year, closing out homecoming week on a high note. Freshmen, seniors, and everyone in between were given a novel experience, complete with a sparkling new field, pumped-up athletes, and crowd-engaging cheers.
Mr. Andrew Cohen, long-time economics teacher and brand-new modified tennis coach, was excited to host the pep rally. The event was a great success, according to him.
“It’s a real honor to emcee the pep rally,” said Mr. Cohen.
Reminiscing on his past experiences, Mr. Cohen spoke highly of past pep rallies, noting that engagement and participation in sports are a strength at Nanuet.
“I think so many students participate in sports here,” added Mr. Cohen. “It’s a big part of high school.”
Excited for his endeavors as a first-time coach, he expressed gratitude for the sports programs at every level.
“It’s been really fun getting to know the middle schoolers and getting to see how the athletic programs work around here.”
Ms. Kaitlyn McCue, a PE and health teacher, as well as the modified field hockey coach, shared her excitement as well.
“Yeah I’m excited for the pep rally,” she said. “I would love to see more school spirit this year, so we’ll see how that goes.”
Teachers weren’t the only ones excited for the return of the pep rally. Students were abuzz about the mysterious event, sharing feelings of anticipation and gratitude for its return.
Katie Dollinger, a junior and involved athlete, commented on the novelty of the event.
“Yeah! I’m so excited for the pep rally,” said Dollinger. “This is my first pep rally, but I see them in movies, so it should be cool.”
Chloe Mirasol, a senior on the cheer squad, shared a similar sentiment.
“I’m happy that we’re bringing it back, and maybe in later years it will make spirit week more fun.”
